Paraben-Free Beauty - Information on Parabens
What are parabens and why are they bad for you?
Parabens are the most widely used and inexpensive preservatives on the market. They are meant to prolong shelf life for up to 20 years. Parabens can be found in shampoos, conditioners, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, cleansing gels, and makeup. They are also used as food additives in some products.
Numerous studies have linked parabens to potential health risks. For starters, parabens can mimic the hormone estrogen, which is known to play a role in the development of breast cancers. Measurable concentrations of six different parabens have been identified in biopsy samples from breast tumors. The particular parabens were found in relative concentrations that closely parallel their use in the synthesis of cosmetic products. Parabens have also been found in almost all urine samples examined from a demographically diverse sample of U.S. adults.
Our feeling is, if parabens stay in the cells indefinitely that can’t be good for us! That’s why we are committed to finding high-quality personal care products that don’t use parabens.
